Primary school pupils have been learning the meaning of giving with the shoe box appeal.

St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, in Borehamwood, have been filling shoeboxes with Christmas gifts to be given to children in different countries.

The pupils have chosen their box and decide whether it is for a boy or a girl and they then fill the box with age appropriate Christmas treats and useful items.

Headteacher Teresa McBride said: “The school has taken part in the Christmas Shoebox Collection for a number of years as it is a good way for them to learn about and help other children less fortunate then themselves.”

So far, the school has collected 116 boxes which will be sent to Operation Christmas Child to be distributed to vulnerable children around the world.

The school’s Blue Team were responsible for encouraging as many children as possible to support this charitable event.

Operation Christmas Child started in 1990 and since then more than 124 million children in more than 150 countries have been gifted with a Christmas shoebox.
