Pupils from Year 1 and 2 took part in a special assembly for Armistice Day.

St Teresa’s Catholic School in Borehamwood held an assembly to show the importance of Armistice Day.

The assembly included the children reading out the war poem In Flanders Fields and they sang a song about poppies.

Teresa McBride, headteacher at the school, said: “Our Year 1 and 2 children take part in the special ceremony each year.

“By learning about this they get an understanding of respect and the importance of the day.

“We had some of our Year 6 pupils selling poppies throughout the week and all the money will go to the Royal British Legion.”

Parents also were invited to attend the service with many joining in with the prayers to the fallen soldiers before taking part in the 2 minute silence.

All the students were wearing crocheted poppies made by one of the parents Mary Sherwood.

She said: “I first made these poppies for my son and I and the school asked me to make them for the other students and some of the teachers.”
