Crimestoppers continues to have a positive impact on tackling crime in Hertfordshire, according to figures.

Statistics show that there were 1,069 pieces of information passed to Hertfordshire Constabulary by the charity in 2014/15, from which the police were able to take some form of action.

As a result, there were 97 positive outcomes and 84 individuals arrested and charged.

Antonia Litten, regional manager for Hertfordshire at Crimestoppers, said: "Some people, for whatever reason, don’t feel comfortable speaking to the police. It may be that they have information on someone close to them but they fear the repercussions or it could be that they don’t want to give a witness statement or go to court.

"Crimestoppers takes the fear out of giving information on crime. We don’t take your personal details and we can’t trace the information you give by phone or online.

"And this works – the figures show this."

Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, David Lloyd, said: "The figures released today show the valuable contribution that this independent charity has made throughout the year in helping tackle crime in Hertfordshire and keeping the county safe."
