Road closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place when a new crossing is installed in a road.

The £145,000 project to build a new Toucan crossing in Elstree Way, Borehamwood, will begin on Monday, September 28.

Work will take around six weeks during which time ‘stop and go’ traffic lights will be in place between Furzehill Road and the Barnet Bypass from 9.30am to 4pm.

Full closures will be in place along this stretch of the A5135 starting on Monday, October 26 between 9pm and 5am.

Closures will also be in place in Studio Way between Elstree Way and Korda Close for five days from Monday, October 26 between 9.30am and 4.30pm and in Manor Way between Elstree Way and Chester Road for two nights from Thursday, October 29 between 9pm and 5am.

As part of the scheme the road will be resurfaced and all road markings and traffic signs associated with the crossing will be renewed.

Terry Douris, cabinet member for Highways, said: “These works form part of Hertfordshire County Council's on-going commitment to maintain and improve our roads for the benefit of all road users in Hertfordshire.

"We appreciate that these works are likely to cause some inconvenience to motorists and would ask everyone for their co-operation and patience while the work is in progress.”

The work is weather dependent and from time to time unforeseen circumstances can arise and work may continue outside the advertised hours.

Any changes to the proposed start date, duration or working hours will be announced on the information boards on site and will be available at http://hertfordshire.roadworks.org/ General road faults like potholes or faulty streetlights can be reported at www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults
