Police cadets have been given awards after a year of action and adventure.

The Hertsmere Volunteer Police Cadets looked back on the goals they achieved in the last 12 months at their annual parade and prize-giving ceremony.

The 13 to 18-year-olds gathered at The Ark Theatre in Borehamwood for the event.

Jack Allen, 17, from Boerhamwood and James Blackley, 16, from Radlett, were named leaders’ cadet of the year.

Cllr John Donne, president of the HVPC, said: “Well done to all the cadets, and a special well done to Jack and James for their awards.

“It was a great event and demonstrates how far our police cadets have come and how much they have learnt and developed as a team and as individuals.

“I was pleased to be able to welcome some new cadets to our numbers and was sorry to say goodbye to some of the group who have 'come of age' and are starting to move on to new careers and ventures.

“Thank you to the cadet leaders, who are all volunteers, for their hard work on the night and their invaluable support throughout the year.”

The cadets ‘Team Alexander’ were awarded team of the year and the teenagers were also presented with first aid certificates on the day.

The High Sherriff of Hertfordshire, Jonathan Trower, Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Martin Worster, PCC for Hertfordshire David Lloyd and chief inspector of Hertsmere, Tannis Perks, also attend.

CI Perks said: “I'm extremely proud of the cadets we have in Hertsmere and they are an important part of our police family.

“It's great to see young people wanting to be part of something that not only supports our local community but also helps them develop into confident young people as they learn a variety of life skills.”

Hertsmere's Chief Inspector Tannis Perks added: "I'm extremely proud of the cadets we have in Hertsmere and they are an important part of our police family.

"It's great to see young people wanting to be part of something that not only supports our local community but also helps them develop into confident young people as they learn a variety of life skills."
