Minion madness came to a school as pupils celebrated raising enough cash for a new play area.

Children and parents at Shenley Primary School, in London Road, raised £24,000 for a wildwood den, a forest-themed play area, to be installed over the summer.

The money was raised over two years through quiz nights, a summer fair, coffee mornings and more.

To celebrate their achievements, The Reel Cinema, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood held an exclusive screening of The Minions for pupils and their parents yesterday.

Mary Evans, secretary of the Friends of Shenley Primary association, which led the fundraising, said: “I am extremely proud. All the parents and children got involved. We have had a lot of support from the community. We are so excited to be getting our special, unique den at last.”

Work started on the wildwood den today, which will be ready for when the children return in September.

Ms Evans, who has two children at the school, Jac and Tom, added: “The children were very excited. There was minion madness at school.”
