Neighbourhood policing and continuing to cut crime are at the core of a new five-year plan unveiled by Hertfordshire’s police chief.

Police and crime commissioner David Lloyd has published the first draft of his Everybody’s Business 2015-2020 plan.

Mr Lloyd’s key pledge is the protection of ten district policing teams led by senior officers. He also wants to crack down on drug-driving, put victims first and make restorative justice more widely available.

He said: "Hertfordshire is a very safe county with an outstanding police force and we need to work together to maintain and build on that success.

"Neighbourhood policing works. It creates a police force embedded in, and supported by, a community working together to cut crime, rather than a force that is distant and engages only when they are called in to clear up the damage.

"Members of the public and the chief constable tell me that it is the best way to cut crime - so I have put it at the heart of the police and crime plan."

Mr Lloyd is calling for residents to have their say on the plan before Monday, May 25, by emailing the.plan@herts.pnn.police.uk

The final plan will be presented to the police and crime panel on Thursday, June 11.

It will then be formally published and become the overarching strategy for the next five years.
