Air raid sirens blared and children ducked under tables as they were taught about the wartime era.
Pupils from Summerswood School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood, celebrated the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with a range of events.
During the morning, classes completed a range of activities exploring life during the Second World War.
All classes visited the Summerswood World War Two museum, which was set up in a classroom with artefacts from the Elstree and Borehamwood Museum.
For every successful activity, children’s individual ration books were stamped and they were told what to do during an air raid.
The school lunch was transformed to reflect wartime meals and all adults and children dressed in patriotic red, white and blue clothing.
After lunch the children traded their ration books in for a plate of rationed party food and joined their classes on the playground for a street party style picnic.
