Salvatore Manzone might be 100, but that did not stop him from hitting the dance floor during his birthday celebrations.

Despite recently breaking his hip and shoulder, the grandfather marked the milestone at Villa Scalabrini care home, in Green Street, Shenley, with his daughter Lilian, his son Jonny, his wife Evie and his ex-wife, Maria.

He was born in Sicily but moved to England with his wife, Carmela, where the couple lived and worked as housekeepers at Hampton Court.

Eventually, they moved back to Sicily but Mr Manzone settled in Southgate after the death of his wife, before moving to Villa Scalabrini ten years ago.

His daughter, Lilian, said: “Personality wise, my dad is very domineering. He loves to play cards and always wins, he’s even had trophies.

“The party was beautiful. He even managed to get up and dance even though he had two falls recently in which he broke his hip and shoulder.

“He then made a speech to thank everyone. He was over the moon that everyone came to the party.”

When asked about the secret to her father’s long life, Ms Manzone said: “I’d like to say it’s because my brother and I look after him well – we go to see him twice a week without fail.

“But I know that it’s got a lot to do with the incredible care he gets at Villa Scalabrini too.”
