A 35-year-old man died after attending a "James Bond meets Pussy Galore-themed" swingers party at a Radlett mansion on Saturday.

Hertfordshire Constabulary and the ambulance service were called to the house in Theobald Street, at 12.32am, after a man was found unconscious and not breathing in the swimming pool.

The sex party, hosted by Radlett Adult Parties, was reported to be just getting started when a "Nigerian man" was spotted at the bottom of the pool.

He was taken to Watford General Hospital where he later died.

Radlett Adult Parties, run by Richard Stanley and his wife Janet Harrison, featured in the Channel 4 series, Jon Richardson Grow Up, last year, which looked at becoming an adult in today's society.

Mr Stanley, said: "I got a shout that someone had sunk in the pool - there were about a dozen people there at the time and about six in the water - I ran into the covered pool area, dived straight in fully clothed and pulled a 35-year-old Nigerian man to the pool edge where several competent people helped drag his body into the CPR position. There was a qualified nurse present as well."

The 66-year-old added that they took it in turns to administer CPR until the ambulance arrived.

He added: "We've never had a tragedy like this before. It was horrible to witness and I feel very sorry for the man’s family."

The company states on its website: "Radlett is one of the UK's more well-established and popular swinging parties. Perfect for newbies and experienced swingers alike."

Mr Stanley continued: "Guests bring their own drink and this gentleman had apparently severely dented his own bottle of Jack Daniels.

"My immediate reaction was to cancel the ‘mad march hare and Easter bunny’ party due on Saturday night, but the police said that was not necessary.

"Also we had countless incoming messages of support for the party and the best thing to do when you fall off a horse is to get straight back in the saddle."

Around 30 people attended the party on that Friday night, which the couple throw on a monthly basis.

Mr Stanley said that "sex was not the primary party descriptor" of his parties.

He added: "The press like to call the events ‘swinging parties’ but I suspect more sex happens at their office parties. The difference is that guilt, regrets and cheating are absent from ours.

"One lady was painted in gold paint - but not the toxic type that was so fatal in ‘gold finger’. Props included a roulette wheel, chocolate golden gun replicas and Bond posters."

One resident, who also lives in Theobald Street said: "It's always a shame to lose a young life, it's unfortunate. But for them to throw a party the next night afterwards I thought was a bit disrespectful.

"Their parties don't bother us too much, apart from the parking, as we're not neighbours literally and it's consenting adults. I guess it's just one of those things."

Hertfordshire Constabulary is currently investigating the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and a post-mortem examination is due to take place this week.
