A choir that closed last year has reformed and hopes to sing its way back to the top.

The Borehamwood Community Choir, which meets at St Teresa’s Church Hall, in Shenley Road, Borehamwood, has 22 members from Barnet, Borehamwood, Radlett and Ruislip.

But singers hope to add to the choir's reserves of talent by bringing together musically inclined people and recruiting 40 new members.

One of two on musical directors Steve Shepherd, 51, said the group holds no auditions and is open to people of all abilities.

The support worker said: “We want to give everybody the opportunity to sing with us and forge new friendships. I hope everyone feels welcome to join.”

The choir, which meets for two hours every Monday, will continue performing at community events and care homes around Borehamwood throughout 2015.

The choir’s leaders hope to give people who otherwise might not have the opportunity the chance to perform.

Mr Shepherd: “To see people’s faces when they’ve performed and the audience gives them a round of applause, it’s lovely, it’s a beautiful thing.”

Mr Shepherd, who works with people who have disabilities, says the group is open to vulnerable, lonely, or older people to get involved and “feel part of something”.

He said: “Working with vulnerable people, you see how important schemes like this are to people’s happiness and sense of belonging.”
