The rape of a child, assaulting a police officer and harassment – some of the alleged crimes Hertfordshire’s OAPs were arrested for over the past five years.
Police also arrested people aged 65 and over on suspicion of causing criminal damage that cost £5,000 to repair, affray, common assault, the abduction of a child in care, racial or religious aggravation and drink driving.
In total, Hertfordshire Police arrested 32 OAPs between January 1, 2010 and January 9, 2015, according to figures obtained by a Freedom of Information request by the Times Series.
The oldest person arrested during that five year period was a 78-year-old on suspicion of assaulting a constable.
Three people aged 66 – the youngest on the list – were arrested for the following seperate offences; racial aggravation, burglary and the rape of a girl under 13.
In total, 31 OAPs spent one night in a police cell during the same five year timeframe.
A 75-year-old, arrested on suspicion of harassment, spent two nights in custody.
