A garage has teamed up with a police group to give out free safety tips to van drivers and help reduce theft.
JTT Autotech, in High Street, Potters Bar, will offer free security markings of catalytic convertors to van owners across Potters Bar and Borehamwood.
The free service is being run with Hertsmere’s Community Safety Partnership.
Tannis Perks, Chief Inspector for Hertsmere, said: "Thieves target catalytic converters for the precious metal so we need to work together as a partnership with garages and motorists to combat this type of crime.
“Theft also brings with it a lot of inconvenience for the van owners as they are costly to replace in order to get the vehicle driveable again. We're keen to work together with other garages to offer security marking and will be looking to extend this arrangement at other locations as soon as we can."
