A school has celebrated the 30th anniversary of its rebuilding after it was completely destroyed by fire.
Summerswood Primary School, in Furzehill Road, Borehamwood hosted pupils, parents, staff and governors at a celebration held on Friday.
The school marked the 30th anniversary of the new school building, along with opening a second one to allow it to serve more students.
Mayor Councillor Pat Strack rededicated the main building that was destroyed by fire in 1982 and rebuilt by 1984, naming it the Summerswood Oak Building.
Chairman of governors Scott Simpson officially opened the new Key Stage 2 building - which will be called the Summerswood Cedar Building.
He said: “We now have this fantastic learning environment for our children.
“This building represents our present and our future and has helped in securing our place at the heart of the community.”
The school welcomed past pupils, currently studying at Hertswood Academy, as well as pupils who attended the school at the time of the fire.
Headteacher Sarah Kneller added: “Our ‘Celebrating Summerswood’ event was a great day for the whole community.”
