A development of 43 new homes for land near the railway station has been approved despite objections.

Hertsmere Borough Council's planning committee last week debated plans for 43 new flats and houses on land next to Coleridge Way in Borehamwood.

Councillors questioned why trees with tree preservation orders had seemingly been marked for removal, but were told by a planning officer that there would be"controlled removal and replanting of trees”.

Car parking was also an issue for neighbours, who warned the area near the station can become "quite chaotic".

However, the application was approved on the condition that security is added and there is a parking management plan.

Andrew Lewis, chairman of the Elstree and Borehamwood Residents Association, lives near the proposed development and spoke during the meeting.

He said: “I am gutted. What’s the point in having public consultation when no-one listens to you. We had 60 people objected to the plans but they have still put it through.”
