An application for flats and shops to be built in Radlett has been approved, despite concerns over traffic congestion.

Hertsmere Borough Council gave planning permission for two shops, eight two bedroom flats and seven one bedroom flats with 17 parking spaces to be built in Watling Street.

The site, now redundant, was the former Burrell & Co Builders Merchants next to the old fire station.

At a planning meeting last week councillors raised concerns over the already congested area and felt that this development might add to traffic.

However, because the traffic engineer in their report had not raised any concerns on which an objection could be based, councillors had to approve the application.
