Fireworks filled the air and marshmallows were toasted to mark the end of a Jewish celebration.

Around 500 people came together over the weekend to celebrate the conclusion of ShabbatUK with a bumper Havdalah and fireworks party at Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue, hosted by the Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue.

Rabbi Chaim Kanterovitz led a musical Havdalah service to mark the end of Shabbat, followed by singing and dancing by all those present, which included babies, toddlers, kids, youth, young adults, parents and grandparents.

This was followed by a large fireworks display in the college’s ground, with hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows served to all.

Event organisers Deborah Mitchell and Nick Mandel:  “It was fantastic to see so many people celebrating Shabbat in this way, and together with the small army of volunteers who helped make this happen, really embodied the community spirit that Shabbat brings.”

The evening was held as part of the Chief Rabbi’s Shabbat UK celebration held this weekend, which called upon all Jewish people to observe one special Shabbat and observe all of its traditions and laws.
