A parade of mannequins glided down the high street as part of a new shop's opening celebrations.

Staff at the new Debenhams in Borehamwood Shopping Centre wheeled the dummies along Shenley Road on Friday.

The shop is due to open on Thursday, and the invasion of the blank-faced but fashionably dressed figures intrigued shoppers.

Passer-by Ron Stern said: “It looks like Doctor Who is coming to Borehamwood.

“It was hilarious to see them walking, I was going to come to the opening anyway but this is a great bit of fun.”

The shop will create 120 jobs - many for young people in the area due to the department store's partnership with a college in St Albans.

New personal shopper Levent Ibrahim, who lives in Borehamwood, also took to the streets to hand out flyers for this week’s opening.

He said: “Everyone is feeling the buzz about the fantastic and exciting project.”
