A neighbourhood watch scheme will be relaunched following a meeting of the town council last night.

The Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council met at a full council meeting last night to hear a number of police updates, along with decide on the future of a neighbourhood watch scheme.

Councillors decided to reinstall the scheme in the town, which will be reintroduced through the wards in a rolling programme.

Town Councillors will be working with local police, Neighbourhood Watch and volunteers to sign up new coordinators, enthuse present coordinators and encourage all to sign up to Owl.

Mayor Pat Strack said: “There are many areas where Neighbourhood Watch coordinators do a great job for their neighbours but in other areas the number of coordinators has dwindled.

“One such area is Hillside Ward where Sandra Parnell and I launched the scheme with Derrick Sweeney in 2005. In 19 years people have come and gone new houses have been built, and only a few of those original coordinators remain but some have worked for all that time.”

Anyone interested in volunteering in the scheme is advised to contact their ward’s town councillor.
