Old bangers will be passing through Borehamwood this week to raise cash for a cancer charity.

Simon Chapman, of Croydon, and nine others will be travelling from London to Blackpool in the colourful cars in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

During their trip, they plan to visit as many landmarks as possible and will be making a one-hour pit stop at Elstree Studios, in Shenley Road, to raise awareness for their cause.

The friends were all devastated when they lost their pal Dave Smith, 60, to cancer two years ago, so are dedicating the Top Gear-style rally to his memory.

Mr Chapman, 33, said: “Elstree Studios will be the first stop we make on our journey and we are very excited to see it.

“So many famous films we shot there and it has so much history, so we thought it would be a perfect landmark to see on our trip.

“A few months ago we were all talking about doing a charity event for Dave and this sounded like a fun way to attract as much attention as possible.”

All the cars in the rally have been bought for less than £250. Electrical engineer Mr Chapman says his Renault Megane, which he jazzed up with the Teenage Cancer Trust logo, is in a “terrible” condition.

Other cars taking part include a Jaguar worth only £100.

After they finish their drive on Saturday, the cars will be handed over to a scrap-yard to be destroyed, with proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

They have so far raised £600 but hope to reach their total of £3,000 by February.
