Hertfordshire County Council hope to work with businesses after road closures in a street almost stopped trade.

Pub owners Joseph and Andrew Dennison-McCarey contacted The Borehamwood Times about their loss of business since the roadworks in Watford Road started on June 9.

Both The Fishery pub and Aldenham Country Park have been affected by the road closures, which are being carried out as part of the Elstree Crossroads scheme.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council said: “We are completing essential drainage works on this section of Watford Road while improvement work takes place at Elstree Crossroads. We have worked closely with businesses in the area to keep disruption to a minimum. These arrangements include scheduling the works to allow access for customers to the Fishery Inn and to the nearby businesses.

“This area is an extremely busy part of the local road network and it is unfortunately inevitable that any works in the area will cause congestion. However, the improvements to the cross roads junction will ease the flow of traffic and make it safer for all road users.”
