TV and radio presenter helps Kisharon raise £20,000 for people with learning disabilities

A TV and radio presenter spoke about her Jewish roots and growing up in Borehamwood to help raise thousands of pounds for charity.

Jeni Barnett gave a talk to 200 people at a ladies’ brunch in aid of Kisharon which supports people with learning difficulties.

Ms Barnett, who presents the Sunday morning radio show on BBC London 94.9FM, spoke about her early days in the East End of London where her father was a market trader before the family moved to Borehamwood in 1956.

She said: “I was the only Jew in the village. The sense of being an outsider has stayed with me all my life.”

Ms Barnett does the voice over for the Channel 4 show Jewish Mum of the Year and was joined by the show's contestants Emma Beck, Maxine Elias and Louisa Walters at last Thursday's event in Regent’s Park Road, Finchley.

Chief executive of Kisharon, Dr Beverley Jacobson, of Belmore Avenue, Elstree, said: “Jeni was very funny, so open and honest, and we were delighted that the Jewish mums came to support us.

"Best of all, we have raised over £20,000 for children and adults with learning difficulties who use Kisharon’s services.”
