A pupil battled it out to be crowned musician of the year at an annual competition held by her school.
Lydia Daniels, a year eight pupil at Edge Grove High School, Radlett, played the clarinet against another 170 students at a concert last week.
She won after wowing the judge, assistant director of music, Jan Stevens, with a “stunning” performance of a Spanish dance by Moszovski.
The 12-year-old winner said: “Winning the competition means so much to me. I never felt I had a chance before but I felt so happy and surprised to win this year.
“I worked really hard for it and felt proud of my achievement – so did my family. I love music and also have singing lessons – I practice every day for up to an hour.”
Rachael Toolan, assistant director of music at the school, said: “The winner entertained everyone beautifully, performing with great confidence and enjoyment.”
