Firefighters swapped burning buildings for dirty cars when they helped out at a charity carwash.

The firemen, from Borehamwood Fire Station, in Elstree Way, turned their hoses onto the nation’s grimiest cars to raise cash for Firefighters Charity.

The crews helped raise over £500 for the charity, which helps support the families of firemen in need.

Firefighter Jim Moran, who helped was cars, said: “I am really pleased with how much we raised – it is better than we have done in recent years so it was unexpected.

“It was great fun but I do not think I will be switching careers to a carwasher anytime soon, probably best to stick to what we are best at.

“All in all it was a successful day and a great way to support such a good cause that is obviously very close to our hearts.”

Around 150 people turned up to have their cars washed at the event, which was organised by firefighters Geoff Seaman and Cliff Webb.
