Affinity Sutton promises to mend smashed door in Borehamwood

A housing association has promised to mend a door which was smashed by yobs leaving residents “living in fear”.

Affinity Sutton says that it is mending the door at the Stanborough Avenue block of flats today.

Sue Cooper, director of property services at Affinity Sutton, said:  “As a responsible landlord we have clear service standards and take complaints extremely seriously.

“We would like to make clear that the door has been the target of repeated vandalism over the last two years and we have repaired it each time this has been reported.

“Our contractors will be fitting a new lock today and we will be consulting with residents about how we can prevent this from happening again.”

Ms Cooper made this statement after the Borehamwood Times revealed that residents were “living in fear” after the door was smashed on Sunday.

A mother-of-two, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “It is madness and what happened Sunday just shows it is just going to keep getting worse.

“In the past, we have seen drinks thrown up the wall, glass smashed in, and nothing gets cleaned up unless we do it ourselves. It is disgusting.

“I have many sleepless nights about it and I worry for the safety of my daughters. I am also scared during the day – what if someone comes in and ransacks my flat?

Herts Police confirmed that officers were called out to the property at 5pm on Sunday following reports of offenders throwing nail varnish at a wall and front door.
