Primary schoolchildren were fascinated and repulsed by Viking stories at an event.
The year four students from Edge Grove School, Aldenham, were treated to a talk from BBC Horrible Histories presenter Thorulf Hammrsson last week.
Mr Hammrsson taught the eight to nine-year-olds about life in the Viking times, including what cooking pots, ironing board and cutlery looked like.
Pupils were also given the chance to make swords, shields and helmets which were put into good use during a mock battle.
Armaan Joshi, a student who took part, said: “The best part of the day was when Thorulf chopped a melon in half with his sowrd to show how powerful and sharp it was.
“We learnt a lot but the thing I remember the most was that Vikings loved to show off the things that were expensive and important to them. It was a great experience.
“We had so much fun.”
