Police authority chairman David Lloyd resigns to concentrate on fighting for new commissioner post
9:01am Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News By Mike Wright
The chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority has resigned so that he can fight to become the county’s first elected police and crime commissioner.
David Lloyd has stood down from the role so he can submit his nomination papers to be the Conservative candidate in the November 15 election. Deputy chairman Stuart Nagler will take over as chairman of the authority that currently oversees Hertfordshire Constabulary.
The move comes after Mr Lloyd resisted previous calls from the Labour police commissioner candidate, Sherma Batson, to stand down from his role as chairman as it gave him an unfair advantage.
In July she said: "If it were me in that position, I would feel there was a conflict of interest. People in the police authority, especially the chairman, are privy to all sorts of information others are not."
At the time Mr Lloyd dismissed the call, denying any conflict of interest
