Borehamwood Women's Institute celebrates 89 years

Ladies of all ages are being encouraged to help celebrate the anniversary of the Women’s Institute.

Members of the 89-year-old Borehamwood-based club will be celebrating its birthday with a typically English tea party next week.

Gill Fowler, of Organ Hall, got involved in the monthly group, which meets at Allum Hall, four years ago.

The 69-year-old treasurer said: “I am thrilled to be part of the birthday celebrations. It is an amazing achievement that the club has been running for so long. I am very proud.

“The event should be a great day – we will be serving cucumber sandwiches, scones and tea and everyone is really looking forward to it.

“This will be the preview to next year’s celebrations when we are celebrating the big 90.”

The food will be served on the same china that was used when the club opened in 1924.

It will be held on Monday, October 8, in Allum Hall, Borehamwood.
