Go Red week launches today

Hundreds will be painting the town red as part of a week-long charity drive to raise money for the Herts Air Ambulance.

The events planned across Hertsmere this week aim to raise money for Mayors charity, and schools and businesses across the borough have pledged their support.

The week will kick off with a charity football tournament at Arsenal Training Ground this evening (Monday) from 5pm to 8.30pm. Anyone is invited to attend.

Borehamwood’s Explorer Scouts, in Well End, will be sporting their favorite red outfits in a bid to raise money for the charity at their weekly meeting on Thursday.

Staff at the Venue Leisure Centre, in Elstree Way, will also be donning crimson outfits on Friday and are encouraging gym users to do the same.

Clare Cocomazzi, centre manager, said the team is hoping to raise over £100.

She said: “We will be putting red shoelaces in our trainers, painting my nails red and some of us are even going to be sporting red hair on the day.

“Everyone is really excited because it is great when everyone gets involved in a charity event such as this one.

“It is going to be a week to remember.”

“I am really impressed with Pat Strack because she seems to have done really well in organising fundraisers this week.”

People are also invited to a coffee morning at Hertsmere Civic Offices, in Elstree Way, when council staff will be paying £1 to dress up in their favourite red numbers.

And the week is set to go out with a bang, when children at Hertswood Lower School, in Cowley Hill, welcome an air ambulance onto the grounds.

The children will all be wearing red to raise money for the charity.
