Shop assistant threatened in Studio Way, Borehamwood

People believe Borehamwood has become a “scary place” after shop assistant was threatened.

A man walked into a convenience shop in Studio Way and threatened a member of staff to hand over some cash at around 5pm on Saturday.

The man, a white male in his late teens to early 20s, then made off towards Toby Carvery, in Studio Way, with the stolen money.

A resident living near to Studio Way said the incident was now commonplace in the area.

He added: “What happened to our safe town of Borehamwood? It is becoming a scary place.

“There always seems to be some kind of report about anti-social behaviour.

“It scares me but it does not shock me anymore. It is a shame that is what is happening to Borehamwood.

“It used to be such a safe place.”

A woman agreed, saying: “It is quite scary, you don’t want to go out alone these days.”

Being a short time resident of Borehamwood I was made aware before i moved to the area of it's status of a rough area. I work in the field of crime and anti social behaviour and i have seen matters around the station, high street and environs that concern me deeply. There were many issues of drugs and youths at Gate Studios and the late night chicken shops have groups of youths that intimidate people. Since the closure of Wood's Bar there has been a reduction in problematic drinkers but night times are scary in Borehamwood. Equally the way people drive around the area is appalling it's like there is no care for the community anymore.

Seriously???? Borehamwood is a scary place! Honestly crimes happen all over the country. Its not right but it happens I dont believe there is one large town in the whole country that hasnt had some form of crime happen there.
Please dont use these scaremonger tactics, Borehamwood is a safe and great place to live I have been here 10 years and have had no more problems than I had when I lived in Hendon, Golders Green or Mill Hill!!!
Crime happens, as long as its dealt with by the police then we should all feel safe where we live.

I was surprised to read that this had happened on Studio Way. I lived on that development, just around the corner from the convenience store, from 1999 to 2003 and always felt that it was a quite a safe haven up there on the hill. I can't honestly say I ever felt so safe in and around the town centre though.

If Borehamwood is a scary town what can be said about ( posh?) Bushey.

As far as I know, and having lived in Borehamwood 38 years, pockets of Shenley Road have always been a bit problematic at night time; long before Woods Bar or late chicken outlets existed. As a pedestrian at night, one would have to be a bit cautious, but that would probably apply to any town that had pubs and late-night food outlets.
The only thing that would scare me; an old woman living alone on a housing association estate, would be a reduction in police enforcement in our area. Unfortunately I too have noticed more idiotic motorist in Borehamwood, something I put down to second-rate driving instructions, and People with foreign ( legal in Britain )driving licences, and of course, that by the law of average, considering how many motorists there are, some of them are generally anti social.

On a more positive note, I've just seen that Borehamwood is featured in the latest edition of the glossy magazine Hertfordshire Life, where there is a two-page illustrated article praising the town's diverse retail facilities.
