Man claims motorists disregard one way system in Winstre Road, Borehamwood

Cars are not allowed to come out of Winstre Road into Hartford Road by the roundabout
A man claims he was nearly killed last week when a motorist drove the wrong way up a one-way system.
Richard Jarvis was driving towards the roundabout in Hartforde Road, Borehamwood, when a car coming the wrong way down Winstre Road almost hit him.
Cars are not allowed to come out of Winstre Road into Hartford Road by the roundabout, but Mr Jarvis said he regularly sees people disregarding the rule.
The father-of-three said: “Last Friday I could have been killed there and then because the car zoomed out of nowhere. It is an accident waiting to happen.
“I find it disgusting that people keep ignoring this rule imposed for safety.”
Mr Jarvis, who also works as a neighbourhood watch coordinator, first noticed the problem in 2007 and has been in touch with the police.
Since then, he has been trying to deter people from carrying out the sneaky manoeuvre but his efforts, such as a petition to close the road off, have been in vain.
He added he has also spotted cars turning the wrong way during rush hour, when parents use the street as a drop off point for Cowley Hill School, in Winstre Road.
“It is amazing how careless people are being because sooner or later, a small child running into the street might get killed. I am not prepared to sit around for that to happen, I want to action this now.
“It just shows how selfish they are. If they knew their child was going to school I am sure they would have a different approach.”
Mr Jarvis has been in touch with police who have monitored the road, but are yet to catch any motorists in the act.
He has now taken to writing down the date and time he spots drivers doing this in a bid to help police.
The Borehamwood Times is awaiting comment from Hertfordshire police.
