Pupils from a Borehamwood school welcomed the education secretary when he paid them a visit.

Michael Gove met the 11 to 18-year-olds at Yavneh College, in Hillside Avenue,  Borehamwood, this morning.

The politician chose to visit the six-year-old school after “outstanding” GCSE grades this year, which placed it the sixth highest performing non-selective school in a league table.

Mr Gove was joined by Hertsmere MP James Clappison, as well as Lord David Wolfson.

Mr Clappison said Mr Gove’s visit had been a success. He added: “I was very pleased with his visit, he spent time talking to the kids and everyone was happy to see him.”

The trio toured the school, and Mr Gove dropped in on a maths and biology lesson.

Before he left, students were given the chance to ask education related questions about GCSEs.

Dr Dena Coleman, head teacher, said: "Mr Gove's visit was exciting for our pupils, who engaged in a probing question and answer session with him on a range of topics, including the place of faith schools in the school system."

Would've had some respect for them if they had visited Hertswood and helped inspire the children and teachers there.

As always it seems only schools of privilege receive visits from high profile politicians/names.

Agree. The more people have a choice the snobbier they become.

Probably too far to drive, it must be at least 5 minutes to the only other senior school in Borehamwood.

Total lack of respect for the staff and pupils at Hertswood. Disappointing but not surprising given his recent records as Education Secretary.

As for 'our' MP shame on you James Clappison.
