Charity auction at Waggon and Horses to raise cash for Herts Air Ambulance

A Sunday lunch for two, a trip to a brewery and tickets to a rugby match will go under the hammer to raise money for charity next week.

The Waggon and Horses, in Watling Street, Elstree, will host a charity fundraising night for the mayor’s charity, the Herts Air Ambulance, on Tuesday.

The evening will also see a performance from two folk bands, Sarah Johns Music Party and Scarlett Moss.

People will have the chance to bid for a Sunday lunch at the Edgwarebury Hotel, Elstree, a trip to Hook Norton brewery, and win tickets to a Saracens v Wasps rugby game.

And a pampering deck, featuring nail painting and massages will also be available, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Rob Hutchings, the landlord of the pub, said he decided to host the charity evening because the cause is close to his heart.

“I was really pleased when I found out that the mayors charity is the Herts Air Ambulance.

“I was an aircraft engineer in the Royal Navy until last September, and knew a lot of people in the air rescue division.

“As a result, I know how important it is and how expensive it is to keep those aircrafts flying.

“They really do save lives so I am dedicated to raising money for the air ambulance.”

Some proceeds for the evening will also go to child abuse charity NSPCC, the pub's chosen charity.

He added that the charity evening will be an “unusual and fun night”.

“I am really looking forward to it, it is going to be a real eclectic mix of people enjoying themselves and raising money for charity – we hope to raise hundreds.”
