Hertsmere Homes scheme to be a 'lifeline'

A “lifeline” to help people struggling with finding somewhere to live has been launched in Hertsmere.

The Hertsmere Home scheme encourages people who own any kind of property to lease them through the borough council.

The idea could help over 1800 people who are currently on the housing register in Hertsmere find an affordable home.

Councillor Seamus Quilty, portfolio-holder for economic development and housing, said: “In times of economic uncertainty, Hertsmere Homes provides financial security for landlords.

“For people in Hertsmere struggling to find suitable accommodation, this scheme is a lifeline and it means they have a greater chance of finding somewhere to live in the borough.”

Launched in partnership with property management company Genesis, landlords can sign up to the scheme for three to five years.

Sorry, but why should 'the needy' (or the unemployed and lazy as I call them) get access to cheap/free private rented properties?? They already get benefits for being lazy (JSA), benefits for free council tax, benefits for the kids they pop out, free healthcare, free housing etc....

As far as I can see from previous scroungers who have featured in this paper, the 'needy' are normally either young single mums with a handful of kids and no job, or new arrivals to the country who have contributed nothing into the system.

This country seems to love giving things to the people who don't want to contribute, whilst strangling the hard working person time after time.
