Despite an August that was mainly wet and rainy, the sun seems to have made an appearance in early September.

Anett Kis, who works in Aberford Cafe in Aberford Road, Borehamwood, said more people have been buying ice creams over the last few days.

She said: "It's great - the kids come along after school to hang out in the park and buy an ice cream.

"I have sold twice as many this week, it would be great of the weather was like this all year round."

Michelle Kennedy, of Studio Way, Borehamwood, was having a picnic in Aberford park with her daughter, Lilly-Mae, four, her friend Lindsay Peralta and her daughter, Savannah, also four.

Miss Kennedy said: "We are just trying to enjoy the sun before it gets cold again - in this country you blink and you miss it.

"We made the girls a picnic and they loved it - they start school soon so we are trying to make the most of it.

Miss Peralta added: "The girls are loving playing on the swings and slides, it is the perfect summers day."

Four-year-old Savannah was eagerly awaiting the ice cream can when the Borehamwood Times spoke to her.

She said: "I can't wait to eat my chocolate ice cream - it is my favourite."

Temperatures are set to reach 24 degrees today, and hit 26 degrees tomorrow.
