When Michelle Katz came up with the idea of a charity “quid day” she never anticipated the response she would receive from retailers across Radlett and Bushey.

Michelle, of Newberries Avenue, Radlett, will be holding a community “Give a Quid" day on Saturday, September 29.

The idea is for retailers to display a poster and charity box asking customers to donate a pound for one day only.

Ms Katz will be raising money for One To One, a charity which provides disadvantaged and disabled children in Israel with activities and therapy designed to teach them new skills.

The 54-year-old said: “I have been contacting retailers in Radlett and Bushey and I’m delighted to say the response so far has been very encouraging.

“I believe that if everyone does a little bit, it all adds up to an enormous amount, which is why I came up with the idea of a day where everyone can donate just one pound. Theo, the owner of Kink hairdressers in Mill Hill thought it was such a great idea that he’s running it for a month.”

Stores already taking part include Grant & Glass Opticians, Jenny Lou, Cutting Room, D P Clarke, Curve, Manor Pharmacy, Radlett Fruiterers, Wine Rack, Goaties and Flamingo.

Co-founder of Bushey Therapy Centre, Ms Katz has worked as a counsellor for 19 years, opening the centre in Melbourne Road in 2002. The mother-of-two is also training for a five day 90km walk for charity One To One, taking place in Israel in November.

She added: “In one sense I’m really looking forward to it, but it’s going to be a real challenge.” To participate or find out more information, contact Michelle on 07973 731194.
