A 16-year-old was “relieved” after ripping open his results to find he had achieved nine A*s in his GCSE exams.
Joshua Peters, a student at Yavneh College in Hillside Avenue, Elstree, also found out he had achieved one A grade, ending months of nervous panic.
The 16-year-old said: “I convinced my exams had gone really badly, but after they were over I just forgot about them.
“But last week when I realised I still had to pick up my results I really began to stress. It was so nerve racking, the night before I barely slept a wink.”
Joshua said his Geography teacher, Mr Hodgkinson, and his English teacherMiss Lovett, “inspired” him to strive for A* grades in the two subjects.
He added: “The teachers were always there for you if you need a bit of extra exam help, they were all incredible. I could not have done this without them.”
Josh is now looking forward to studying geography, history, English literature and biology to A-level at the high school next year.
“It is a relief to have done so well and my parents were absolutely thrilled. After all that panic, it is nice to be able to relax now.”
Ninety-four per cent of pupils at the school achieved five or more grades at A* to C, up from 87 per cent.
Dr Dena Coleman, head teacher at the school, said: “I am delighted that the unwavering focus on teaching and learning at Yavneh College has enabled us to surpass the national trend and achieve even better results than last year.”
