A PE teacher from Shenley is “buzzing” about running with the Paralympic torch next week.

David Ede, who works at Davenant School in Essex, will be carrying the flame through Waltham Forrest with five other teachers from the school next Wednesday night.

The 31-year-old and the other PE teachers were selected for encouraging their students to get involved in Paralympic sports despite being able bodied.

He said: “All the kids loved playing the Paralympic sports. We got them involved in Boccia and wheelchair volleyball and they all said they had a great time.

“It was really rewarding to see how much they all enjoyed themselves after the games, that made it worthwhile.”

Mr Ede and the other PE teachers at the school were chosen by a judging panel which included BT Ambassador and Paralympic Dressage champion Lee Pearson.

He added: “I am completely buzzing about this, I cannot wait. It is going to be so exciting.

“Ironically I will be walking with the torch just down the road from where my parents live – that makes it all the more special for me.

“There was an unbelievable atmosphere around the country during the Olympics and I want people to have that same attitude when it comes to the Paralympics.

“It has not really sunk in that I am going to be doing this yet but I know it is going to be such an honour.”
