Detectives have released a statement after 20 police cars and a helicopter swarmed Radlett yesterday.

Two men were arrested in Watling Street after a high-speed chase that began in Bushey, where officers were called to reports of a burglary just after 5pm.

Sarah Spence, police spokeswoman, said: “The number of officers and police resources seen to be dealing with this matter may have appeared excessive.

“However, the level of response and specialist police units used is indicative of our commitment to tackle crime of this nature and bring police pursuits to a safe conclusion.”

She also thanked the public for dialling 999 and directing officers to the scene.

Earlier today, police released wrong information saying an Audi abandoned in Watford was being investigated in connection with the incident.

However, it has since emerged that this was a separate incident.

The police activity prompted several comments on socail networking site Twitter.

Brian Martin tweeted: “One friend said the car passed him on the M1 driving on the hard shoulder, and it shook his van as it passed.”
