Buckets of rain did not dampen spirits at an Elstree school’s fete on Saturday afternoon.

The children at St Nicholas School, in St Nicholas Close, were extra excited when Chizzy Akudolu, who plays Mo Effanga in BBC’s Holby City, turned up to draw the raffle.

The actress also starred in children’s TV show Gigglebiz.

Anna Endean, the chairwoman of the school’s parent teacher association, said: “It was great meeting Chizzy.

“She was so lovely, friendly and warm and really great talking to the kids. They all couldn’t wait to get her autograph.

“Most of the kids recognise her from when she did children’s shows, so they were really chuffed to see her.”

Plans to hold the fair outdoors had to be changed at last minute due to the rain.

Ms Endean continued: “We moved everything indoors, from the beer tent to the barbecue, but it was still a really great atmosphere.

“Everyone was sitting down like it was a picnic, and they had loads of fun.”

Headteacher Kate Johnston-Grant also got soaked through and through in the stocks, where children threw wet sponges at her.
