It was all smiles yesterday as the sea cadets came together at a Borehamwood church to mark Seafarers Sunday.

The Edgware, Mill Hill and Borehamwood Sea Cadet Unit spent an hour at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Cranes Way, praying to give thanks to those working at sea.

The annual day, held on the second Sunday of July, honours seafarers who transport more than 90 per cent of food and products across the world by sea.

The Pastor of the Church, David Jackson, was inspired to plan the day because he served in the Canadian Navy.

The chaplain to the sea cadets said: “It was a fantastic day, everyone really enjoyed it and everyone was smiling. There was a very positive response from everyone, so I’m really glad it was such a success.”

During the service, St Paul’s children’s choir performed a musical rendition of Noah’s Ark, called Noah’s RemARKable Voyage. Performers got into the spirit of the show by dressing up in costume.

The Mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood, Councillor Charles Kelly, also attended and Pastor Jackson said he seemed “very impressed” with the standard of acting.
