Two people were found to be working illegally and three more have been charged with overstaying their visas and ID fraud after a raid on a fast food restaurant yesterday morning.
The UK Border Agency raided the branch of McDonald’s in Borehamwood at 10.20am on Monday morning, acting on intelligence that staff may be working in the UK illegally.
Checks at the branch, in Shenley Road, revealed a 23-year-old Nepalease man and a 26-year-old Indian woman were working illegally.
Both have been taken into detention by the UK Border Agency for removal from the country after it was found they both had valid student visas but were working in excess of their permitted hours.
Three others were found to be overstaying their visas and were remanded in custody and charged with ID fraud offences.
They were two Sri Lankan men, Dulanja Kankanamge, 21, of Beech Drive, Borehamwood, Mohamed Farhan, 30, of Shenley Road, Borehamwood and Gambian woman Bada Touray, 30, from Edgware.
The three suspects were remanded in custody and due to appear in Hatfield Magistrates Court today.
