Prestigious award for dedicated Rotarians Prestigious award for dedicated Rotarians

Two long standing Rotarians have been given a prestigious award for their dedicated service to the club and the wider community.

John Page and David Rose were awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship, by the Rotary Club of Elstree and Borehamwood.

Both men were caught unaware when they received their awards at the surprise ceremony last week at the Premium Inn, in Elstee Way, Borehamwood.

Mr Page, 73, of Ascot Avenue, Elstree, said: “I had no idea I would be getting the award and I was absolutely amazed to receive it, it was a bit of a shock to be honest.

“I’ve got a lot of satisfaction over the years from the work we have done to help the community.”

Mr Page, who used to be a plumber, ran the Pinks Hotel in Shenley and has been a member of the Rotary club in for 27 years.

Mr Rose, 68, of Beech Avenue, Radlett, said: “It’s an exceptional honour to receive and I had no idea I was even in the running to get it.

“I’m very proud to receive it and I’m touched that people think I measure up to others who have won it before, even though I do not think I do.

“I joined the Rotary Club because I wanted to give something back to the community, and though my time I have been able to do just that.”

Mr Rose has been a member of the club for 40 years and has worked in Borehamwood since the age of 28, when he started his own pharmacy.

Club president Paul Clark said: “Whatever the Club organises you can be sure David and John will be working hard to make the activity a success whether it be bulb planting or setting up and supervising the Schools Art Show.

“David and John are great fellows and they guarantee we have a good deal of fun even when we are doing something with a serious purpose.”
