Elstree and Boreham Wood Museum faces uncertain times as delays hamper the construction of its new home in Shenley Road.
As reported last week, the construction of the new multipurpose community centre in Borehamwood has been hit by another delay after the design partner pulled out.
The new centre will provide facilities for Borehamwood Library, the Elstree and Boreham Wood Museum and multi-use community hall.
Curator of the Elstree Boreham Wood and Muesum Alan Laurence said: “As far as we are aware we are going to be moving location, but when that is we just don’t know.”
“We were given an indication we would be moving in to the new space at the end of this year, but it looks like now we may be moving in a bit later. It’s not a good position to be in.
“All we can do is carrying on giving the service we do in our current location and will move when the new centre is available.”
“We are bit uncertain about what is actually happening and have been left in limbo a bit, but we will keep preparing for the move.”
The building was due to be completed in November this year but is now expected to be ready for March 2013.
Town councillor Farida Turner said: “It’s a bit upsetting that we have to wait and I know the volunteers are concerned about the date being set back again, but sadly it’s out of our control.
“The move will happen eventually, and hopefully the new centre will be worth the wait.”
The centre will be located on the site of the old Borehamwood Village Hall, in Shenley Road, which was torn down last December.
