A man was threatened during an attempted robbery at a cash machine in Borehamwood on Saturday evening.
The 50-year-old victim was using the cashpoint in Shenley Road, at 7.30pm, when a man came up from behind and demanded the money.
The two struggled and the victim shouted for help, at which point the man ran off down an alleyway.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid-20s, about 5ft 7ins, and wore a dark hooded top and light-coloured trousers.
Police are appealing for any information from witnesses who may have seen the incident.
