A PHYSIOTHERAPIST from Pinner will be trekking up Mount Everest next month to raise money for a brain tumour charity in memory of his cousin.

Prem Shah, 38, will be climbing up to the mountain’s base camp with three friends in memory of his cousin Amit Shah who died last April to raise money for charity Brainstrust.

Mr Shah, who works in South Harrow, has raised almost £5000 but wishes to beat his target.

He said: “The trek takes 13 days and involves walking up to eight hours a day. At base camp it is around minus 15 degrees.

“My cousin was told on his deathbed I would be doing this so I am committed to doing it and want to raise money but also the profile of the charity.

“I’ve been going to the gym, doing a lot of cardio work and going on lots of walks including one recently where we all walked from Pinner to Baker Street, in central London.

“It took about four hours and afterwards we just had to find a pub for a few drinks.”

Mr Shah will be doing the trek on February 10.

He added: “It is really close now and I remember thinking last year it was ages away and here we are almost on our way.

“Amit was a real character. He was the joker of the pack but a real family man.

“He was a pharmacist who we found out later had given advice to the Government on pharmacies.

“He was a really clever guy and he left behind two teenage boys who despite what happened are doing really well.

“I hope I can raise as much money as I can for this charity and for Amit. It’s a great and very important cause.”
