A CHARITY fundraising team has been crowned the winner of a competition to be the first to run in the 100 metres lane at the Olympic Stadium.

Breaking Boundaries, a fundraising team of ten, with members from Harrow, won after raising the highest amount of sponsorship for the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) in December.

They raised a total of £1772 for the Gold Challenge, which is a charity initiative which has individuals or teams take on Olympic and Paralympic sports to raise money for one of 125 charities.

Team leader Danielle Watson, from Northolt, started a social media campaign requesting friends and followers from Facebook and Twitter to donate during the competition period to help them win.

She said: “Our charity of choice, the ACLT are extremely dear to me and the rest of the Breaking Boundaries team.

"When we learned about Gold Challenge offering the opportunity for teams to win a spot to be among the first individuals to sprint down the 100 metres lane at the Olympic Stadium, we were even more determined to push forward with our fundraising and to win that golden ticket.

"I can’t believe we’ve done it and the team and I are so proud.”

The team will get the chance to run the 100 metres on April 1.
