A TREE was blown over due to high winds in the early hours of this morning in a road in Harrow.

The tree fell down in Grange Road at around 2.15am crashing through telephone cables and scattering wheelie bins.

The bad weather has affected streets across the country. Jeff Anderson has lived in the road for 20 years and lives opposite where the tree fell. The tree is now being taken out of the road.

He said: "There had been rain and strong winds during the late evening and night but not noticeably worse than on other occasions so it was a surprise when the tree came down.

“I heard a bang which I thought was a wheelie bin being blown over and was surprised to see the tree had come down.

"It is a shame as the tree has been here many years and brightened the street when in leaf but fortunately no-one was about and hurt as it was in the early hours."
