THE Borehamwood pensioner jailed last week for burying his elderly father in his back garden has had thousands of pounds seized by the court from his bank account.

Seventy-year-old Michael Jachimowicz was told he must forfeit £36,602 at a hearing at St Albans Crown Court for claiming his father’s pension up to six years after his death. He was also ordered to pay £25,546 in compensation.

The OAP received a 20-month jail sentence on September 2 for burying his 87-year-old father in a shallow grave next to his pet dog in 2005.

The recovery of the money was part of a week long operation by police to crackdown on so-called economic crime, where criminals have financially benefited from their crime.

Two women, one in her 40s and one in her 60s, and a man in his 70s were also arrested on suspicion of money laundering and running a brothel in Bushey High Street. All three have been bailed until December 1.

An address in Borehamwood High Street was also targeted by police in connection with money laundering. A woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s were arrested and bailed until November 22.

Detective Sergeant Joe Quinlivan from Hertfordshire Constabulary said: “This week’s targeted activities were another resounding success in the fight to hurt criminals in the pocket.

“We can seize the profits of their illegal activities and remove these negative influences on our communities.”
