THE winner of this year’s Celebrity Big Brother was announced last night, much to the surprise of the nation’s bookies.

Paddy Doherty, who starred in popular TV series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, won the show after beating bookies' favourites to win - X Factor twins, Jedward.

Along with the seven finalists, Doherty spent 21 days in the Big Brother house, at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood.

On hearing he was the winner, Doherty punched the air and grabbed fellow contestant Kerry Katona, shouting: “Wommmmannnnn!” before lifting her off the ground.

In an interview with presenter Brian Dowling, shocked Doherty said: “I thank all the people who voted for me. I swear I only thought I’d last one week, no way did think I’d win, I had no game plan.”

Former pop princess and reality TV personality Kerry Katona was runner up in this year’s show, followed by Jedward, who took third place.

A new series of Big Brother starts on Channel 5 tonight, 24 hours after the Celebrity Big Brother final. Pamela Anderson is rumoured to be starring against non-celebrity contestants.
